weetuskenraider: (Have a Bad Feeling About This)
Tahiri only had days left in Fandom, and in her determination to make them count she'd made up her mind to spend some quality time with Firekeeper and Blind Seer while she could.

. . . yes, this meant portaling the three of them back to Disneyland to show them what they'd missed while they'd been away; from what Jaina had said (or more significantly, hadn't said) about the experience she suspected the bright colors and cheerfulness might do the wolves some good.

It had taken some smooth talk -- always a challenge for her -- and a little bit of Jedi mind trickery to get them to let Blind Seer into the park as a companion animal, but she'd managed, and had her map in hand as they headed onto Main Street.

"I scouted the place pretty thoroughly while I was covering Master Skywalker's class," she told them in her usual rapidfire way. "And there's a few rides that are so bizarre you have to experience them to believe them."

She really should have a bad feeling about this, but . . .

[OOC: NFB for distance, and for the wolves plz!]

weetuskenraider: (Reading)
Tahiri was all too aware of her time in Fandom coming to an end; she was trying to be stoic about it in that all things do, and I should know that by now sort of resigned way. Mostly she was succeeding at it, even though it was an outlook that didn't quite fit right, like she still had to grow into it.

She wondered about that every now and then, when the reports she was reading through on her datapad got a little too dry for her preference; mostly, though, she was trying to focus on the reports and think about what was ahead for her . . . and worry a little bit about how Ben was doing.

It would almost have been nicer if she had enough material possessions to her name to worry about how she'd pack everything, and wonder where it had all come from over the past three years. That not being the case, she just curled up on her bed with her stuffed bantha and her datapad and kept reading.

[OOC: Expecting someone, but door and post are open with patches of SP until later. JFC what is all this actual playing I have been doing lately.]

All in all, Tahiri felt satisfied with the results of today's class, although she was worried about Master Skywalker, Firekeeper, Jaina, and the others who'd gone off. She had absolute faith in them, of course, but well . . . she cared, and therefore she worried.

That was something she had practice at, of course -- she could worry about her friends and carry on with her day unimpeded, because that was just something you got good at after you'd been doing it all your life. And maybe, just maybe, she was still humming that kriffing "it's a small world" song as she paged through a small solar system's worth of files and notes from Danni Quee and Tekli.

That was, until a weird little impulse took hold of her, and she took time out of her reading to send an email that read simply:

Ben Skywalker, you had better not be doing anything unbelievably stupid right this minute!

No idea why. It wasn't even a bad feeling she had -- just a weird one.

[OOC: Establishy, but open if you want. Because I have new canon today, and I HAD TO.]

It was definitely, definitely warm enough for spending long stretches of time on the beach again -- say, for example, with a blanket and a well-stocked picnic basket, and (for old time's sake, a small tent (set well back from the water's edge) by a fire pit. Plenty of room for lightsaber sparring, too, if they chose to do that; it wasn't a clear space but that just made things better, didn't it? Leaping over rocks and sidestepping small obstacles on the ground was basic stuff anyway.

It was a good week for a date like this too, with not much else going on. That it all felt a bit calm-before-the-storm hadn't escaped Tahiri, but she wasn't bringing that up just yet, and if Ben was picking up on that impression too she wouldn't be surprised if he kept it to himself, either. Observations like that didn't seem very conducive to enjoying themselves.

Enjoying themselves being the point, the observation could remain unspoken for now.

Now there was food, ice cream for later, the sound of the waves, and the prospect of watching the sun set over the water. Hard to complain about any of that, really.

[OOC: For ze boy, and up early for great SP justice! This post subject to editing later when I'm more awake.]

"Absolutely not," Tahiri said for the thousandth time to the monkey that kept clinging to her foot. "Can you go play somewhere else?"

The monkey seemed perfectly content to ignore the suggestion -- even with a touch of the Force behind it -- and keep snuggling her foot; apparently her toes made astral handholds. It had been at this for the past couple of hours, since she'd stretched out on her bed to read some reports from home, and it looked like it had the energy to keep it up for a while.

Tahiri eyed the monkey dubiously over the top of her datapad. "I'm not so sure you're not really part mynock."

It ignored her -- again -- and kept clinging.

"I give up," she announced, and went back to reading.

Well, one good long spar with her new lightsaber and it hadn't broken; Tahiri was counting that as a good thing. (Not that, as long as it had taken her to build, she was worried about having done a rushed job with it.)

Dinner afterward was clearly the appropriate way to celebrate the occasion, which was why she and Ben had headed up to her room with several containers of takeout and, of course, ice cream.

. . . so, basically, a typical date night for them. Fighting and food. All the elements were there!

weetuskenraider: (Have a Bad Feeling About This)
For as often as she had a bad feeling about things around Fandom, Tahiri could have quite the comfortable income if she got paid each time. But since that wasn't an option -- and personal wealth was a very non-Jedi thing to attain anyway -- she mostly just dealt with it, and kept her eyes open. It wasn't a patrol, exactly, but she'd been making a slow circuit of the island, partly to search out the source of the bad feeling and partly following a vague sense of guidance from the Force, when she ended up on a quiet cove on the beach.

Which was when, so quickly even Jedi reflexes would be caught completely unaware, the tear opened up to her left -- and, following her instinct, Tahiri whirled that way . . . and right into it.

She barely had time to send a wordless pulse of warning to the other Force-sensitives on the island, and wasn't even sure if she'd succeeded, when the tear swallowed her up.

Just before she blinked out of existence in this reality, Tahiri had the acerbic thought -- punctuated by a guttural exclamation best left untranslated from the Yuuzhan Vong -- that the Force really thought it was funny sometimes, didn't it?

[OOC: Estaaaaaaaaaaablishy, though the other Jedi types can react if they so wish!]

Tahiri was used to having weird stretches of days, weeks, months even. You had to be, coming from her galaxy (that was two cultures there, plus the recently-integrated extragalactic one) and doing what she did. And the weekend, draining and uncomfortable as it had been at times, defied the constraints of the word 'weird' to be able to express.

So that was one thing. It was another thing entirely to be hurdling a fallen log as she took the path from the school to the cabins at a run (all that ice cream yesterday had to be worked off, after all) and land on four small, clawed, fuzzy feet instead of two bare and mostly-human ones.

At least it had happened before, and she could take it in stride.

. . . a somewhat awkward loping stride, since a very young cougar wasn't at its most graceful stage of life, but kind of a neat one anyway as she bounded off to go find Ben. His reaction ought to be amusing.

[OOC: Establishy due to whoabusy last day of work before VACATION, OMG COME TO ME. The cougar thing will never not amuse me.]

Moving down to the cabins had not exactly been a high priority for Tahiri after Saturday night; she and Ben had spent a good portion of Sunday more or less hiding from everything.

Eventually the need to do something superseded the urge to repress -- and it was starting to hit her that in this situation there was less to repress than she'd expected there to be -- and she set out to find her cabin. Packing was, as always, easy; a couple of changes of clothing, her comlink and datapad, and she was basically set.

Which didn't make her alcove any less empty, or the emptiness any more comforting for its expectedness.

Tahiri could say she was meditating, sitting on her bed with her back against the alcove wall. But that would be a lie.

[OOC: Was supposed to do this yesterday but yay for the day absolutely running away on me. Open with patches of SP, for cabinmates or visitors and oh, yeah, that Skywalker kid.]
