She'd promised to try and make it back to Fandom at some point soon, but the way she was caught up in a particularly tangled set of negotiations at the moment Tahiri wasn't sure if that was going to happen. And it wasn't even as if it was some kind of huge, civilization-endangering crisis, just a thousand tiny details that neither side seemed to be willing to concede.

It was hard to be too frustrated, though, when a good number of those points of conflict were kind of funny if you were Tahiri.

Which was why she was relaxing in what amounted to the living room of her little cliff dwelling, reviewing notes on her datapad and chuckling softly.

By now, Jaina had had a couple days to process yesterday's (somewhere) news, and so it probably shouldn't be a total shock that there'd be a call to Tahiri. She sort of assumed that news would have made it back to her by now. What timing!

Shhh, she was the one person Jaina knew who'd really understand. Calls were necessary.

So Tahiri sounded a little less chipper than she had the previous two times she'd answered calls, but she managed to try and sound . . . neutral, at least.

"Jedi Veila here."

[solo_sword]

"Oh, so the rest of us just stick with our last names, but you just have to be different," Jaina greeted her.

[weetuskenraider]

"I think it's expected of me by now, so who am I not to live up to that?" Tahiri replied. "Boy, am I ever the popular one today, it seems like."

[solo_sword]

"Is it one of those days where I'm about the thirtieth person to call?" Yes, betting at least one of those was Anakin-related.

[weetuskenraider]

"Sixth, actually, but only the third from Fandom, so you still get to be a little special," Tahiri assured her. "I'm glad you did, actually."

[solo_sword]

"Any particular reason, or just glad to hear my voice?" she checked.

[weetuskenraider]

"I wish I could say it was the second option," Tahiri replied, and because it was Jaina she dropped the pretense of sounding neutral. "Have you had any, um . . . news from Fandom lately?"

[solo_sword]

"About how we jinxed ourselves really hard?"

Like there was anything else it could be right now?

[weetuskenraider]

"You'd think," Tahiri said, but not before she snorted audibly, "we should know better than to make jokes like that by now. Speaking of which, I can't decide if this is one."

[solo_sword]

"Considering I found out from my grandfather, I'm thinking not," Jaina said. "Though it does remind me why Fandom just got to be too much after a while."

[weetuskenraider]

"Yeah. Ben called a little while ago," Tahiri replied. "I keep thinking it sounds awful of me to be glad it was after we left, but I don't exactly envy the position either of them are in."

Which wasn't quite the same as it would be for her or Jaina, but she was pretty sure everyone on this call knew that.

"And it's not a bad thing," she said. "Ben and Grandfather never really got to know him. I'm glad I'm going to get to see my brother again. But... we all know."

[weetuskenraider]

"And you and I were there when it happened," Tahiri added quietly. Jaina had actually witnessed it. She hadn't, but she'd felt it strongly enough through their Force bond that she hadn't needed to see. "I don't think I could run into him in a common room for some completely harmless television show or birthday party and not think about that. I like the idea of him getting to know your grandfather, though."

"It's not unlike seeing and talking to Jacen when I know what happened to him in Ben's time," she rationalized. "Does this mean you're not going back anytime soon?"

[weetuskenraider]

"I don't know. I want to," Tahiri admitted, "but I don't know if I should. I can handle seeing him, at least I think I can, but with him and Ben both there things could get weird. Plus I don't know when he's coming from, and if they haven't attacked Yavin yet explanations could get really messy."

[solo_sword]

"True," she conceded. "I'm going back next week their time. I could get an idea of how he's handling things. I... well, I don't know how warning him about Yavin or what happened to you would go."

Probably badly, considering Anakin had run off before Jacen and Jaina could even help.

"Not to mention it would be hard to hide." There was a hint of stubbornness there, since Tahiri still didn't want to hide the scars. "Besides, you know how he gets when he's really set on something."

That they were having this conversation in the present tense had not escaped her notice. It didn't make it any less weird.

[solo_sword]

"Oh, I do." It was hard not to say 'I remember,' but she was actively working on that tense thing. It was a little like training herself to say 'I' instead of 'we.' "And to be honest, I have no idea who in Fandom knows what anymore. He might already know things."

[weetuskenraider]

"He inevitably will, after a while," Tahiri answered. "It's happened to all of us."

Watch her not talk about whether or not that one big thing was something he should know.

"And we seem to all be doing fine," she said, partly to reassure herself.

Especially since she knew she was headed right into what she knew about herself, and she doubted she'd be that fine then.

"Even if it took a while sometimes." Tahiri laughed all of a sudden, which might have been weird if she hadn't gone on to explain why. "I could always tell Firekeeper to have Blind Seer sit on him if he tries to do anything stupid."

That was rich, considering how frequently she'd gone right along with whatever stupid thing he did.

"You know that'd just lead to levitating wolves, Tahiri," she said.

[weetuskenraider]

Tahiri, who felt her attempt at a mood-lightening joke had been a partial success, sighed. "I know. And it'd be a mean thing to do to them, but it was a funny thought for a moment."

[solo_sword]

"I also get the feeling he'd end up with them both tagging along and not really knowing why... Dammit, now I'm thinking about this."

Not that Jaina herself had ever ended up doing that, or anything.
