She'd promised to try and make it back to Fandom at some point soon, but the way she was caught up in a particularly tangled set of negotiations at the moment Tahiri wasn't sure if that was going to happen. And it wasn't even as if it was some kind of huge, civilization-endangering crisis, just a thousand tiny details that neither side seemed to be willing to concede.

It was hard to be too frustrated, though, when a good number of those points of conflict were kind of funny if you were Tahiri.

Which was why she was relaxing in what amounted to the living room of her little cliff dwelling, reviewing notes on her datapad and chuckling softly.

There was a pause on Tahiri's end, a good five seconds or so.

"Fas," she muttered finally, sounding like she didn't know exactly how to react to that news. "This is what I get for asking."

That last bit had an edge of anger to it.

"I wanted to make sure you had enough time to adjust before you came back to visit again," Ben said softly. "Or to not come back at all, if that's easier."

[weetuskenraider]

"Thank you," Tahiri told him, and she didn't need to be anywhere within thousands of light years to make it clear how much she meant that. "Not for thinking to tell me -- I know you would have. I have a pretty good idea this wasn't a call you were looking forward to making, though."

A pause.

"If not hoping you'd never have to make."

"It wasn't really on my list of experiences I wanted, no," Ben said, "but I thought you should hear it from me."

[weetuskenraider]

"I'd rather have heard it from you than anyone," Tahiri told him. "And I'm glad you told me."

She hesitated. "I don't know how soon I'll be making it back, anyhow."

[momslilassassin]

"Why not?" Ben asked, sounding worried. "What's going on?"

Pause.

"Other than the Anakin thing."

[weetuskenraider]

"Just busy," Tahiri said quickly. "No crisis or anything, I promise. Besides, I'm not sure I'm ready for that yet."

[momslilassassin]

"I understand," Ben said softly. "Take all the time you need."

[weetuskenraider]

"Being around both of you at the same time would be weird," Tahiri added, because she had to be honest with him about that.

[momslilassassin]

He snorted a little wryly at that. "I'll bet. I'm not really sure how to mention that at all, but I don't want him to hear it from some random person either."

[weetuskenraider]

Tahiri snorted right back. "Yeah, well . . . for such a smart guy I had to spell it out for him about five times before he figured out why he felt funny around me, and that wasn't long before -- you know. He'd probably just get confused."

[momslilassassin]

"Or get irrationally jealous?" Ben offered.

Not that he'd spent two years in a silent, useless competition with the ghost of Anakin himself.

"Gah. I hadn't even thought about that," Tahiri admitted.

[momslilassassin]

"It'll be weird for a bit," Ben understated.

[weetuskenraider]

"Weird for a bit like Mon Cal is a little bit damp?" Tahiri asked.

[momslilassassin]

"And Coruscant is a little crowded," Ben replied.

[weetuskenraider]

"You'd think we'd be used to these situations by now, and yet." Tahiri sighed. "I guess I don't mind the idea of you getting to know him."

Force knew she'd made poor Ben hear enough about him.

[momslilassassin]

"Good," Ben said, sounding relieved. "Do you think he'll notice that I don't, you know, know anything much about him?"

[weetuskenraider]

"Um." A faint trace of strain might have shown in Tahiri's voice. "Hard to say. Who knows? Maybe there's some future out there where he was just busy and gone a lot of the time by the time you were old enough to remember him."

[momslilassassin]

"Well, it is our family," Ben admitted. "He barely saw his parents growing up, right? Stands to reason that Mom and Dad would have been just as busy."

[weetuskenraider]

"And you did spend a lot of time in the Maw as a baby," Tahiri agreed. "It wouldn't really be lying to him to say that and let him come to the same conclusion, would it?"

They were actually having this conversation. That was so wrong somehow.

"Right," Ben said after a pause. "This is totally a weird thing to be talking about it, isn't it?"

Damage control between two ex-boyfriends? Maybe a little.
