"Ben Skywalker." That didn't sound as threatening as it could have when anyone who knew her well enough could tell Tahiri was trying not to laugh.

"You don't believe that I can?" Ben asked, pretending to be Very Hurt.

"Oh, I do. That's what concerns me," Tahiri said -- dryly, but again, very hard put to suppress laughter.

"You're just jealous of my genius," Ben decided.

"Sick with envy, really," Tahiri told him. "I cry over it at night."

[momslilassassin]

"I'm very sorry to hear that," he replied, grinning. "Truly."

[weetuskenraider]

"No doubt the guilt is crushing," Tahiri said, this time with a chuckle she wasn't bothering to hold back. "I miss your sense of humor, you know."

[momslilassassin]

"I'll call more often," Ben promised.

[weetuskenraider]

"I'm just glad to know you can again." Tahiri paused. "Though, given the way time's passing for you, I'm hoping to hear from you again before you turn forty."

[momslilassassin]

"We seem to have slowed down again," Ben said. "Dad visited for a week and didn't go back to find years have passed."

[weetuskenraider]

"I'm more relieved about that than I should be," Tahiri admitted. "Possibly because I shudder to think of what would happen if you could actually give me a hard time about being older than me."

[momslilassassin]

"I'd be completely insufferable about it," Ben declared with a laugh.

[weetuskenraider]

"I'm very well aware," Tahiri teased. Mostly teased, because she wouldn't put it past ihm at all. "Because you're a giant pain, but I wouldn't have you any other way."

"Well, if I wasn't, you'd probably check my name for gratuitous vowels," Ben replied.

"That," Tahiri said, deadpan, "would be one of the absolute first things I'd do, yes."

You'd think some clone somewhere would learn better than to follow a screamingly obvious naming convention.

Naah. See what I did there?

"Good," Ben said. "I'm not sure Ender knows to check for the spelling thing."

*facepalm*

"Is cloning a major concern there?" Tahiri wondered. What, you mean most universes didn't have that kind of technology in a disturbingly accessible way?

"Not that I've seen," Ben said. "People are still getting used to the idea that they can have more than two kids without getting side-eyed."

Tahiri made a small, nonverbal sound of understanding. "It can't hurt to make sure he knows, anyhow. The last thing the multiverse needs is extras of you running around." She was serious about the first part. Not so much about the second.

Ben laughed. "It would be too much of a good thing?"

[weetuskenraider]

"Sure," Tahiri said, clearly teasing this time, "if that's how you want to look at it."

[momslilassassin]

"I think it is," Ben decided. "The universe couldn't handle more of my astralness."

Or something.

Tahiri laughed out loud this time. "I'll agree with the universe not being able to handle any more of you."

[momslilassassin]

Ben grinned to hear that. "I've missed that laugh," he admitted.

[weetuskenraider]

"I've missed you making me laugh," Tahiri replied. "I'm awfully short on beings with that sense of humor around here."
